This Week:
Brothers,
As we step into week 32 together, I’m grateful that the Lord doesn’t just clean us up once and leave us as we are, but keeps shaping us day by day. Following Jesus is not about trying harder with the same old thinking, but learning to see and respond in ways that fit who we now are in Him. The Spirit patiently changes how we process life, so our thoughts begin to align with the new identity we’ve been given.
This week invites us to ask where the “old self” is still hanging in our spiritual closet. Maybe it shows up in a stubborn habit, a familiar sin, or a reaction that feels automatic and unchangeable. The good news is that this inner renewal is God’s ongoing work, not a solo self-improvement project. As you read, pray, and reflect, ask the Lord to help you name one specific “old garment” to lay aside, and one Christlike attitude or action to “put on” in its place.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be renewed in the spirit of my mind and put on the new self. (Ephesians 4:23-24)
Ephesians 4:23-24 – …and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Meditation:
Renewal is a continuous process, not a one-time event. What old habit of the “old self” are you still wearing that needs to be discarded?

Book Recommendation:
The Life of God in the Soul of Man by Henry Scougal
Men should read Henry Scougal’s The Life of God in the Soul of Man because it cuts through every superficial notion of Christianity and forces you to grapple with whether the life of God actually dwells in you. Scougal insists that true religion is not external performance, bare morality, or passing spiritual feelings, but “a union of the soul with God” and “Christ formed within us.” For men who are busy, pragmatic, and often tempted to measure spirituality by activity rather than reality, this book is a needed corrective.
Written originally as a pastoral letter to a friend who had lost his faith, the book speaks with the warmth of friendship and the directness of a seasoned shepherd. It exposes false ideas about Christianity—surface religion, hypocrisy, and “worshipping in vain”—and replaces them with a compelling picture of real conversion, new birth, and living faith. Scougal shows how faith as the root must bear fruit in love to God and neighbor, purity, and humility, giving men a concrete grid for examining whether their profession of faith is alive or merely nominal.
Historically, this little book helped ignite the spiritual awakening of George Whitefield and influenced the Wesleys, shaping their understanding that being “born again” is central to the Christian life. Today, it remains “a tour de force of spiritual wisdom” that has served countless spiritual wayfarers, especially those stuck in external religion and hungry for a real, transformative walk with God. Any man serious about walking the narrow path that leads to life will find here a penetrating, practical, and Christ-centered guide.
